ColorIn season

Purple Reign

Royal and eggplant purple run through the fall 2026 collections and also turned up across street style at the shows. Editors suggest pairing it with fall neutrals like camel, brown and gray, or starting small with a purple bag or knit.

Red as the New Neutral

Small doses of red are being used to finish an outfit: a belt, a brooch, earrings, a scarlet knit or red denim. It is the easiest way into the season's color story, since one red accent can update otherwise plain basics.

Art Deco Evening and the Drop Waist

1920s references are steering this season's eveningwear: drop-waist flapper dresses, velvet opera coats, tuxedos and metallic brocade. Waistlines are sitting lower than usual, which gives the season its defining dress shape.

Second Skin, Sheer and Lingerie Layers

Body-conscious jersey, sheer black layers and cut-outs put the body at the center of fall. Show-goers made slip dresses and lace camisoles work for colder weather by layering them under knits, jackets and tights.

Season of the Skirt

The spring 2027 shows made the skirt the key garment of the year ahead, in minis, midis and sheer versions. Retail buyers also expect skirts to lead next summer's sales.

“The season of the skirt” was the headline after a Prada show in which 63 variations on the theme were presented.

Dressed-Up Plaid

Plaid has moved from cozy country checks to brighter colors and fabrics like chiffon and silk, cut into dresses, going-out tops and evening bags. Street style takes a more relaxed approach, mixing different checks or wearing tartan with a washed tee and leather jacket.

Reptile Textures and Riding Boots

Animal print has moved on from leopard to snakeskin and croc-embossed leather, on boots and bags alike. Footwear has no single shape this season: structured equestrian riding boots, sleek second-skin boots and sculptural wedges are all in play, and olive green is the new boot color.

Balletcore, Evolved

Ballet-inspired dressing has gone beyond bows and flats: glittering ballet flats and deconstructed tutus showed at Cecilie Bahnsen's spring 2027 show, and Yohji Yamamoto made a square-toe ballet loafer with Repetto. Elle argues the look is now a permanent part of fashion culture rather than a passing trend.

“Ball Hog” Archive Dressing

A TikTok aesthetic where creators post ordinary-looking casual outfits made entirely of rare archive designer pieces, then list the credits. The Cut sees it more as a meme inside the wider archive-collecting craze than a look likely to reach the mainstream.
